Pilates & Barre
With over 25 years in the movement arts industry, Janelle is an experienced and passionate movement educator. She has taught barre fitness to celebrity clientele at top fitness studios in NYC and Boston, and has lead master classes in Pilates and dance around the country, including for Audible and Amazon in Seattle, WA. Janelle holds a Power Pilates advanced mat certification and received her Reformer and apparatus training through Balanced Body.
Janelle was first introduced to Pilates while pursuing her BFA in Ballet at the University of Utah, and quickly discovered how the practice changed her dancing, her body, core strength, and muscle awareness. While dancing professionally in NYC, Pilates continued to be her go-to cross-training, and, desiring to dig deeper, she received her Beginner Mat certification from Power Pilates NYC. Shortly after, Janelle was invited to train with Tanya Becker, the founder of the Physique 57 barre method, and joined their elite team of instructors in 2008. Utilizing the principles of Pilates along with ballet- and yoga-inspired strengthening and flexibility exercises, Janelle found barre fitness to be a challenging and amazingly effective marriage of her favorite tools. As a senior instructor, she taught wait-listed classes and celebrity clientele at Physique 57's flagship Manhattan studios for over three years, and was featured in their first series of workout DVDs and videos.
Upon moving to New England, Janelle followed her passion for mindful fitness to Boston, where she became certified in Exhale Spa's Core Fusion Barre and Cardio Barre, and taught weekly classes at their Back Bay studio. Janelle also co-wrote the Fuel Barre Method manual for Fuel Training Studio in Newburyport, MA.
Janelle's love for classical Pilates was rekindled while cross-training for a dance company tour in 2017, when she began to train privately again on the mat and equipment. She completed her Power Pilates Intermediate and Advanced level mat certification, and received additional training in Reformer, mat-work with props, and Pilates for specialized populations at the Power Pilates headquarters in NYC. She began to teach more classical Mat classes at boutique fitness studios around the Seacoast of NH and Southern Maine.
Janelle completed Reformer training through Balanced Body, and continues to work toward her comprehensive certification. She is fascinated and inspired by the many benefits of regular Pilates practice, and loves to share this life-changing system with her clients. As a mom of two in her mid-40s, she attributes much of her continued success in dance and injury prevention to its powers.
